Geohazards pose an ever-increasing threat to humankind. This is driven in large part by dramatic global population growth in hazardous areas around the world, exposing communities to risks from both natural exposure and vulnerable infrastructure. The principal solid earth geohazards are earthquakes, volcanoes, and mass movements. Additional hazards come from space in the form of meteorite impacts.
