Another bright day at GT3 despite a strong wind from the north (cold and toward the tent entry). We have been joined by two trainees from the Ministry of Authority of Mining and said goodbye to Damon (Credit: OMAN TeamDP).
Oman Drilling Project coring continued at GT3 with more samples of the sheeted dike gabbro boundary including spectacular cores of varitextured gabbro.
Fantastic drilling in GT3 sheeted dikes with a series of splendid chilled margins and complex hydrothermal alteration. Gretchen and Michelle left for home just as we set a new record core recovery of 39.65 m in a day.
Today we finished the installation of the casing in GT3 and advanced to 24.05 m. The next team of OmanDP scientists arrived on site and are ready to go. Our project manager Dr. Jude Coggon has left for a well earned break.
Today we finished setting up the new drill site and by 14:30 we had started coring. Our first core was on deck by 15:39 and included variably hydrothermally altered sheeted dikes. We finished the day at 2.7m.
Today we completed the core description of the last few cores from GT1, the base of the hole saw the return of layered gabbros with some epidote veins. Demobilisation is now underway and we should begin mobilising GT3 sheeted dyke/gabbro transition tomorrow.
Today we reached our target depth of 400m in Hole GT1! As we neared the bottom of the hole we returned into layered gabbros with some alteration zones, as always the cores are spectacular. Tomorrow we will finish core description and begin demobilisation ready for our next site GT3.
Today we advanced 15.95m and passed the 300m mark in GT1, recovery variably altered and occassionally foliated gabbros. We also had to pull out of the hole to change our bottom hole assembly, we are now ready for the final push down to 400m.
Another busy day on site, after a windy start to the day we made excellent progress with an advance of 33.5 m, we are tantaslising close to 300m in GT1. We also welcomed back lead project scientist Juerg Matter to OmanDP
