Today's drilling produced some different rocks than yesterday. Instead of just pillow lavas, we recovered pillow lavas and pillow breccias. Both of these unit types are massive, monolithologic, and highly fractured. The rock appears to be quite brittle, as many of the fractures show no evidence of alteration. They were probably induced during drilling at depth or removal of rock from the core barrel at the surface. Hopefully the core bit will reach more coherent rock soon. At the time of this report, 6:30 PM HST, we are drilling at a depth of 10,284 feet.
