ECR Governance

...promoting collaborative scientific leadership

The ICDP Early Career Researcher (ECR) Network is organized by ECRs, for ECRs — built on transparency, inclusivity, and collaboration.

Our governance structure was co-developed during the ICDP ECR Workshop 2025 in Vienna and is designed to ensure that early career scientists have an active role in shaping the future of ICDP.

This structure supports open communication, shared leadership, and clear decision-making. The network is led by one Chair and two Co-Chairs, supported by a Steering Committee (SC). This setup creates clear pathways for ECRs to grow into leadership roles within ICDP and beyond.

The ICDP ECR Network governance model reflects our values as early career scientists: openness, mutual support, and shared leadership. With this structure in place, we’re building a sustainable, active, and ever evolving ECR community that ensures our voices are heard and our careers are supported as part of the broader ICDP mission.

ECR Steering Committee

Governance Structure

ECR Chair
The ECR Chair serves as the main representative and spokesperson for the ICDP ECR Network. The chair coordinates strategic planning, liaises with ICDP leadership, and ensures that the network’s vision and goals are upheld.

Two Co-Chairs
Supporting the Chair are two Co-Chairs who contribute to long-term planning, lead key initiatives, and serve as secondary contacts for external communications. They share responsibilities with the Chair to maintain continuity and resilience in leadership.

Steering Committee (5 Members)
The Steering Committee supports the Chair and Co-Chairs by managing the network’s activities, communication, and community outreach.

Together, these 3 roles form the Leadership Team, which meets regularly to plan initiatives, respond to community needs, and represent ECR voices within the broader ICDP community.

Decision-Making & Communication

All major decisions within the network are made collaboratively by the Leadership Team and, when appropriate, in consultation with the broader ECR community. Transparency is a core value:
    •    Meeting summaries and decisions are shared via email and on our online platforms.
    •    Input is gathered through open surveys, discussion channels, and community meetings.
    •    Elections or leadership nominations are conducted with full participation of network members.

This open system ensures accountability and responsiveness to the diverse interests of our global ECR community.
