GOE-DEEP: have a look at the inner wall of a borehole in Gabon

all the way down to 350 meters!

The data were collected in the framework of the ICDP drilling project GOE-DEEP in Gabon using LIAG’s borehole imager.

GOE-DEEP aims to significantly increase our understanding of Paleoproterozoic Earth history by drilling up to 11 boreholes in the Franceville Basin of Gabon, likely the best-preserved archive of Paleoproterozoic sedimentary rocks globally. It is during this critical time in Earth history that the oxygenation of the atmosphere and upper layers of the oceans and evolution of aerobic microbial ecosystems take place.
