The ICDP 2025 Training Course, held 14–20 September in Weinan, Shaanxi Province, China, brought together researchers from diverse scientific and cultural backgrounds for an immersive, weeklong introduction to scientific drilling within the ICDP framework.

The program combined expert lectures, hands-on fieldwork, and interactive sessions, equipping participants with practical skills in drilling engineering, coring methods, advanced downhole logging, and sample and data management.

A standout moment was the visit to the WEIHE drill site, where attendees witnessed live drilling operations and exchanged knowledge directly with field specialists.

Beyond technical training, the course emphasized the societal role of scientific drilling, including dedicated modules on science communication and outreach to connect research with policymakers, local communities, and the broader public.

Cultural and networking activities further enriched the experience, promoting collaboration and lasting professional relationships. Participants praised the intensive, hands-on approach and suggested expanding field activities and interactive learning methods in future courses.
