By midnight the main hole logging program had begun
Eckhard Dahms (GFZ) taking a sample of upward migrating gas around the casing of Mallik4L-38 after the re-opening of the borehole. The sample was instantly analyzed with the quadrupol-masspectrometer showing high content of methane., The main objective of the gas monitoring group of the GFZ is to obtain data on the composition and depth distribution of the gases present in a sedimentary permafrost environment.
By midnight the main hole logging program had begun., Hopes are high that with a successful research logging run and complimentary coring data the data quality from Mallik 5L will be very high.
