Integrated Understanding of the Early Jurassic Earth System and Timescale

Project Acronym: JET | State: Completed | Expedition ID: 5065

JET recovered a complete Early Jurassic sedimentary record at the site Prees, located in the Cheshire Basin (Shropshire, England), and close to a former oil and gas exploration well.

The team recovered approximately 630 m of primarily latest Triassic to Early Jurassic Strata, including the Jurassic-Triassic boundary. This new section is ideal for an integrated study: astrochronology, chemostratigraphy, biostratigraphy, and magnetostratigraphy which, combined with data being generated from the old Mochras core (from Wales) will become the international standard for these 25 million years of Earth history.

Keywords: Europe, United Kingdom, Mochras, Earth System, Jurassic, Timescale

Cores are stored at British Geological Survey, National Geological Repository, UK
