Drilling Information System

DIS - acquisition and administration of field, lab, and sampling data

ICDP provides the Drilling Information System DIS for operational support in on-site data management. It is designed as a toolbox to build and maintain individually designed DIS for a distinct drilling project. It is based on a consistent relational database integrating different types of information and uses improved user interfaces for data input, report printing and data views.

The Purpose

The main purpose of the DIS is data acquisition for the documentation and administration of

  • basic – initial - primary data
  • initial measurements and reports
  • sample requests, sample curation and sample distribution

in order to achieve a common data set and reference for all science team members.

The Concept

The DIS is always part of a defined workflow which includes certain automated consistency checks and human quality controls. The data and information are harmonized in used units, date and time formats and naming conventions before they are stored into tables. The content of these tables and data views can easily be transferred into external applications preferred by the user for further processing.
