Curation DIS

Acquisition and administration sample material and samples in storage places

ICDP is offering the CurationDIS as a Drilling Information System for storage places for sample material and sample curation. One big advantage is that the content of an ExpeditionDIS can easily transferred into a CurationDIS. As sampling continues on a storage place, the same procedure is taken over by the CurationDIS.

International GeoSample Number

Another advantage is the assignment of International Geo Sample Numbers (IGSN). IGSNs are worldwide unique IDs which can be used as digital link to almost all information related to the object. Already on ExpeditionDIS level IGSNs are assigned to holes, cores and sections, mud, cutting, gas or other material coming out of these holes. And IGSNs are assigned to any on-site samples, corresponding labels can be printed already in the field as shown above.
