TADP prepares for drilling at site 2

  • News

While site 1 is finished, preparations for the drill start at site 2 are in full swing

While the drill rig is travelling by ferry to its new destination in Marajó, the team at USP is loading the cores from site 1 (Acre) for shipping to the Continental Scientific Drilling Facility at the University of Minnesota. Furthermore, preparations for drilling at site 2 (Marajó) are in full swing, including training on sample and data management for new team members. Drilling is expected to start at early May.

The Trans-Amazon Drilling Project (TADP) aims to document the evolution of biodiversity of the Amazon forest across most of its entire reach throughout its entire history, and to determine how the evolution of the physical environment (e.g. tectonics, climate, geomorphology) has shaped the generation, distribution, and preservation of neotropical biodiversity.
