ICDP Early Career Researcher workshop “The Next Generation”
In 2023, the ICDP Conference "ICDP in the Second Quarter of its First Century" recognized the need to establish measures to better involve Early Career Researchers (ECRs) in ICDP projects. In response, last spring, the ICDP Assembly of Governors proposed the creation of an ICDP Early Career Research Group and allocated funds for organizing a kick-off workshop.
We herewith invite applications from Early Career Researchers to participate in this ICDP-sponsored workshop. The workshop aims to:
- Launch an ECR mentor-mentee program to better integrate ECRs into ICDP and provide pathways for ECRs to take on leadership roles in ICDP projects (e.g., PIs, Co-PIs) and beyond;
- Establish a ECR group and network for disseminating information, such as calls for workshops, ongoing ICDP drilling projects, and ICDP outreach and training initiatives;
- Nominate representatives of the ICDP Early Career Research Group to serve as liasion with ICDP;
- Foster the development of joint research ideas and promote collaboration.
The workshop will be held in Vienna (Austria) immediately before the EGU General Assembly 2025. ICDP will partially support travel and expenses for selected participants, with financial support preferentially given to ECRs from ICDP member countries, countries considering ICDP membership, and countries whose ICDP membership is covered by UNESCO.
Your application (single PDF-file) should include contact details, a 2-page CV, and a letter of interest, including your research background and, if applicable, your involvement in ICDP. Please indicate in your application if you need travel support and the motivation. Also, if you plan to attend the EGU General Assembly.
Participants will be selected by a steering committee. Early Career Researchers include PhD students as well as postdocs within eight years after obtaining their PhD. Please submit your application by January 31, 2025 to icdp-outreach@icdp-online.org.
