icdp Outreach

...promoting Earth science research through scientific drilling

Scientific Drilling addresses fundamental questions of high societal relevance - including sustainable resources, environmental change and natural hazards. ICDP projects are primarily financed by science funding agencies and based on taxpayers’ money with the aim to make Scientific Drilling projects visible to the public, the media and decision makers at all levels. This is where outreach becomes important.

Recent discussions of new technologies related to drilling, such as unconventional gas development, carbon capture and storage, and geothermal energy, have brought deep drilling into the public spotlight. Outreach is thus important to ensure acceptance of scientific drilling and serves as an integral part of ICDP projects from their inception. The ICDP outreach team is available to support scientists and answer questions related to ICDP drilling projects‘ outreach measures.
