Grant Proposals

Financial and operational support by the ICDP is based on unsolicited proposals submitted by international Science Teams.

Important Deadlines

ICDP accepts grant proposals of all kinds until January 15 each year.

All proposals will be reviewed by the Science Advisory Group in early spring each year.

Workshop proposals will be decided on by the Executive Committee (EC) in early summer, while Full Proposals will be decided on by the Assembly of Governors shortly after the EC meeting.

Call for Proposals

Call for proposals to communities from the Earth Sciences and Drilling Engineering.

Types of Proposal

ICDP accepts three types of proposals:

Pre-Proposal: Project ideas can be submitted to ICDP to get a preliminary evaluation by ICDP and hints how to further develop it.

Workshop Proposal: Serve to acquire funding for a workshop to assemble an international team and prepare a full proposal.

Full Proposal: Mature full proposals are submitted to ICDP for funding of drilling operations and related action

Land-to-Sea Proposals: L2S proposals are designed for projects that require scientific drilling at both onshore and offshore sites or at shallow marine sites for full achievement of the scientific objectives. L2S are jointly implemented by the ICDP and the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP). All proposed L2S projects will need to submit a Preliminary Proposal and a Workshop Proposal to ICDP. Full L2S Proposal should be submitted to IODP.

In addition, ICDP panels may request proponents to submit an Addendum Proposal.

Instructions for proponents can be found in the downloads.
