First hole is finished! 563.75m of core, 149 boxes, freshly restacked and closed with 894 screws, 22 core marker pens, 2 bottles of HCl and lots of elbow grease.
Simone Kasemann has joined our team yesterday. After this quick introduction on how to do the core inventory, she has launched herself into the depths of our database, feeding it with litho unit descriptions. She is our hero of the day!
It is Sunday and the drillers have their day off. This gives us the opportunity to catch up on some logging and database work. A calm day at the office that will end with a braai for dinner.
Today we have surpassed the 500m mark at our first hole in Tierkloof. However- this is only the second time that we have seen a 3m core that is still intact. David and Henry are enjoying this photo opportunity.
Abner Nghoongoloka from the Geological Survey of Namibia has joined our team at the drill site. Welcome! For the next two weeks he will help us with the core inventory and the mapping of the area surrounding the site.
Tanja Hoerner is catching up with the database paperwork since Sunday is a rest day for the drillers. It's cold and breezy here (13 degrees in the Namibian summer) so everyone's happy to be huddled in the tent.
It's the third full day of drilling and we've established a routine and organised the working tent. We are no longer in quartzite and passed 200 m depth!
