Continued drilling smoothly and steady wit an average drill rate of 7 m/hr. The depth was at 2450m this morning around 09:00 o'clock. The inclination of the well was recorded at 3°. No increase in circulation losses were measured, which kept close to 5 l/s.
Drilling continues smoothly and steady cutting a section of 140m during the last 24 hours. The depth around 09:00 o’clock was at 2277m. The inclination of the well was recorded close to 4°.
Drilling ahead at a drill rate between 6-8 m/hr. The depth at around 08:00 o’clock in the morning was 2129m. Circulation losses were recorded around ~5 l/s. The wells inclination increased slightly and is between 3-4°.
Side-tracking out of the RN-17 hole began at depth of 1819m. At 1830m the proportion of cement cuttings were down to 25%. At 09:00 o'clock this morning the well reached adepth of 1885m and the drill cuttings were clean of cement. The inclination of the well was measured at 3°.
The attempt to side-track in RN-17 continued with the new drill-rig "Geysir" on January the 31st 2005. A plug had been cemented in up to 1800m prior to kick-off. The drill rig of the type "Mod: HH-200.S" was constructed in 2004 by the italian company Soilmec Ltd. The rig is working with a hydraulic system drilling with a top-drive, a telescopic mast, drill pipes are assembled in a magazine around the rig-floor, the capacity of the rig is up to 200 metric tonns (441.000 lbs), and has a possible maximum drill-depth capacity down to 4000m (12.000 ft).
The well was sidetracked out of its original RN-17 borehole at 1995m but started to drift back into the RN-17 borehole again at a depth of 2001.4m drilling into the lower fish, where the drill-bit got stuck, following that a decision was made to abandon operations for now and continue in the new year with the drill-rig "Geysir". Drilling is ver slow and time consuming the drill-crew is still slowly sidetracking out of the original RN-17 borehole. The depth this morning was at 1954m and around noon at 1970m.
The 130m cement plug is consolidating above 2010m and the cement hardness will be tested today. Preparations for by-passing the lower fish are under way.
The second attempt to catch Fish 2 failed and a decision was made to sidetrack the well. The fishing-string was taken out of well, and a temperature log and CCL-log were run. The drill-string is run down the hole again to set a 130m cement plug between 2010m-1880m as a preparation for later sidetracking of well.
The weather is very stormy today, but the fishing-string is on its way out the hole this afternoon, possibly attached to a small section of Fish 2 at its end.
One section (Fish 1) of the fish was retreived last night with the 255m long, lower section (Fish 2), consisting of broken drill-sring and BHA remaining in the hole. Preparations to retreive Fish 2 are under way. Todays photos show a few snap shots from the fishing operation. The circulation losses in the well are now 30 l/s, indicating two feed points, one between 1250m-1300m and a second at 1960m depth.
Yestersday the drill-string was stuck in the well and attempts to loosen it lasted all day. To clarify the situation a temperature log inside the drill-string will be run this morning. Fishing operations will continue afterwards.
The well reached 2141m around 10 o'clock this morning, drilling at an average rate of penetration around 7 m/hr during the night. Circulation losses decreased down to 2.5 l/s.
The drill-string had to be retrieved again during the last night due to a fauly shock absorber in the drill-string. The drill-string is being run down the hole and drilling will continue tonight. The present total depth of the well RN-17 is at 2084 and circulation losses were recorded around 11 l/s last night.
The motor drilling in RN-17 finished at 2084m the night before yesterday. Drilling without a motor began around 10:30 this morning. Circulation losses were recorded at 23 l/s this morning cutting an feed point in the well. Around 10:45 the losses decreased down to 17 l/s. Cuttings had accumulated at bottom of the well and amounted to 20 m before drilling was started.
Drilling was stopped in order to change the drill-bit at depth of 2084m. A temperature log was run at noon to check on the wellbore, also recording circulation losses around 6 l/s only. Drilling will probably continue tomorrow.
The drill-string was run down the hole early this morning and the drillbit reached the top of cement at 433m MD at 10:00 o'clock this morning. At around 14:00 o'clock 100m of cement had been drilled out leaving another 368m of cement to go.
The first CBL logging run will be conducted today after the cementing of the 13 3/8" casing down to 891m yesterday. Circulation losses just before cementing were around 9 l/s. Reverse cementing through annulus took 90 minutes and required a cement volume of 111 m3.
The final production casing depth was reached at 04:30 this morning at a depth of 901.5m. Open hole geophysical wireline logs will be run before setting down the 13 3/8" casing and cementing of the casing.
The weather this morning is excellent with temperatures around 7°C. Drilling operations are going well and fast, drilling for the production casing hole, which is planned to reached a target depth around 900m. The depth of the well around 15:30 is 730m and the well probably will reach final casing depth tomorrow.
Setting down the 18 5/8" anchor casing down to 352m. Encountered first epidote at a depth of 312m, which suggests temperatures around 250°C. The epidote is probably of Late Pleistocene age superimposed by calcite.
