After repairing the wireline and pulling out the rods, we made excellent progress over the weekend, drilling a remarkable 12 meters. But at 1863 m and again at 1874 m, things took an unexpected turn. We suddenly encountered sludge in the drilling fluid and experienced complete core loss, 2 meters at the first depth and 3 meters at the second. Fortunately, a sand horizon was preserved at the base of 1863 m, giving us a glimpse of the material being eroded away by the drilling fluid. This is both surprising and puzzling, especially since the same sand appears at the surface. Just when we thought the Bushveld had revealed its last controversy, it delivers yet another mystery.
