DOVE: DRILLING COMPLETED in Winterstettenstadt

After reaching the bedrock, drilling was concluded at 166 m at site 5068-1/Tannwald

The final meter has been drilled at the DOVE site 5068-1/Tannwald. After reaching the Tertiary molasse deposits at 155 m that underlies the overdeepened basin, the DOVE team drilled another 11 m into this bedrock before concluding core drilling. Thus, the third and final drill hole at the so called Tannwald site (5068-1), about 70 kilometres north of Lake Constance in Southern Germany, has been drilled. The cores will be opened and described at the University of Bern together with drill cores from the Basadingen Site (5068-2) in Northern Switzerland. In Winterstettenstadt LIAG researchers will now undertake a series of geophysical measurements in all three boreholes as well as between boreholes to gain insight into the in-situ conditions of the sediment. For more details please see the press release on the LIAG website (11 Nov 2021).
