New depth record

Deepest hole in history...

Since the project started in 2014, SK-II has drilled more than 2300 meters long core with 98% core recovery. The drilling engineering team of SK-II has committed to develop new large diameter coring technology to get large cores: almost 1650 meters long continuous cores of 214mm diameter were recovered. By lengthening drilling tools and improve drilling technology, more than 30 meters long core could be drilled in a single round trip, and in 2016, this record is brought up to 41.69m (4797.01m to 4838.70m).

Core from SK-II is now exhibited in the “National Exhibition on Science and Technology Achievement during the 12th Five-Year Plan Period (2011-2015)”. Ms. LIU Yandong, the Vice Premier of China and Mr. WAN Gang, the Minister of Science and Technology have visited the SK-II area and show a great interest on cores and drilling progress. Read more....
