The International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP) is sponsoring Scholarships to allow scientists to attend the 'Scientific Drilling - Training Course 2011', 10. to 14. October in Windischeschenbach, Germany at the former drill site of the German Deep Drilling Project KTB.

The International Continental Scientific Drilling Program, ICDP supports and coordinates multinational endeavors in land-based scientific drilling.
With this announcement, ICDP invites advanced students, PhD students and post-docs from ICDP member countries (Austria, Czech Republic, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Norway, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, USA) to apply for the

ICDP Training Course on Continental Scientific Drilling

to be held October 10-14, 2011 in Windischeschenbach, Germany at the former drill site of the German Deep Drilling Project KTB. Key Topics of this training course will be:

• Fundamentals of Drilling Technology
• Planning and Managing of a Scientific Drilling Project
• Sampling of Drill Core and Cuttings
• Sampling and Monitoring of Fluids and Gases
• Sampling and Analysis of Organic Matter
• On-Site Drill Core Logging and Interpretation
• Borehole Logging Basics
• Applied Borehole Logging and Logging Interpretation
• Downhole Seismic Monitoring
• Information and Data Management

This training course is highly recommended for managers and scientists from forthcoming ICDP projects. Costs of registration, travel, meals, and accommodation for this training course are fully covered by ICDP. More detailed information on ICDP training is available on the ICDP web page.
Deadline for submission an application is June 15. Applications should contain a short (1-2 page) curriculum vitae, a max. 1-page covering statement justifying the application, and two letters/references in support of the application. A decision will be made by the ICDP and results communicated by mid of July 2011.
