KTB - German Continental Deep Drilling Program
KTB Deep Crustal Lab Facilities
The OSG manages and operates the facilities at the KTB site in Bavaria, southern Germany. The KTB Lab offers two deep boreholes with a complete downhole logging infrastructure, workshops and offices. Available on site logging infrastructure includes logging winches for each borehole with standard 7-conductor logging cable and Schlumberger 31-pin or GO7/GO4 cable heads etc..
The KTB site is the place for in-situ high temperature/pressure testing of logging and downhole monitoring equipment and even for longterm observation methods.
Pilot hole KTB-VB: 4000 m, open hole: 3850 - 3970 m, accessible with wireline tools (T ≈ 115 °C at 3970 m), min. casing-ID: 108 mm
Main hole KTB-HB: 9101 m, open hole: 9031 - 9101 m, accessible with wireline logging tools down to 6500 m (T ≈ 190 °C), hydraulically open to the bottom, casing 0 - 5900 m: ID = 312 mm, liner 5900 - 6500 m: ID = 216 mm
